pour some sugar on me | (Link)
|
can i just say that i CANNOT BELIEVE THAT ALAN SUGAR was given a peerage and a govt role. WHAT. JUST...NO. WTF?
meh, it's barely a role, he'll just get to go lots of photo ops and attend meetings so dull he'll give it up in six months (he'll get to keep the peerage though...)
it's not really what he will/won't do, it's more a) recognising and rewarding someone like that (both the "just cuz he's on TV" angle, and the bullying, macho business culture he espouses which surely Lab should be against), and b) they seriously think this kind of sticking plaster on the finger will have any effect when blood is gushing from their head :(
i mean as a comparison EVEN CAMERON has said he dislikes Sugar because of the bullying rudeness. something seems ass-backwards here.
he may be a lightning-rod appointment -- ie someone actually less respected or popular than hazel bleughs, hence makes g.brown look beloved and wise
ha even I would prefer Sugar to Bleughs. honestly I don't know anyone who doesn't have a visceral UGH reaction to her.
true dat, he's not exactly a shining example of work/life balance is he?
The TV stuff is all an act apparently. He has seamlessly made the transition from an actual entrepreneur who made things people wanted to buy to a sleb who growls at dickheads. Where politics fit in I have 0 idea.
The Minister for Chewing Gum at Culture? Lordy lordy.
Beckett's going to the back benches. And it appears Ian Gibson's taken the Chiltern Hundreds thus precipitating a by-election in Norwich North.
oh good, a by-election, just what the doctor ordered, siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh...
I fear we will all be singing the Turbonegro song sooner rather than later.
ok, i have failed today's popular culture test, which turbonegro song?
"By-elections are quite good (existential question time)"
not if Beckett's involved, arf
Argh! I am sick of seeing ppl comment on the attractiveness (or not) of female politicians *all the time* and hardly ever about male ones. Politics is NOT A BEAUTY CONTEST!
I always try to balance it out but thinking about the attractiveness (or not) of male parliamentarians is too depressing :(
I guess Purnell is prob the best-looking.
*goes to look at Obama shirtless pixxx again*
Edit2 also is a projected share of Tories: 38%, Libs: 28%, Lab 23% enough for a tory government? i thought they HAD to be in the low 40s to get a majority?
According to Baxter's method, Con maj of 30; according to Rallings and Thrasher, Con maj of 4.
Ben Bradshaw!? Oh my lord, DCMS is my team leader's job, she will be, er, thrilled.
surely he's only like 26 or something, i'm sure he was NUS president when i was a student (which was obviously only three years ago and not a decade and a half or anything...)
i'm sure he was NUS president when i was a student
I had some rum ones in my time; Trevor Phillips and David Aaronovitch, with Woolas waiting in the wings.
oh no hold on, confusing benny boy with TWIGGY
Caroline Flint gone now! :O
this is half reshuffle, half rats scamperin off ship, isn't it -- to set themselves up to stand against GB
I'd say it's wholly the latter, forcing the former! and tbh I don't blame any of them.
but during a press conference, Caroline?! LOL. so cold.
and actually, rather than rats off a ship, it seems more like people being winched up in a helicopter from the roof of a burning house.
